Full Job Description Job Description:
Columbus Quarry, LLC seeking an experienced Loco Operator with heavy equipment operation experience. This position is responsible for handling train and rail movements to manage on-site shipping.
Role/Responsibilities:
Safely operate locomotives and switch vehicles between tracks within the quarry's rail yard to support operations Position railcars for loading and unloading aggregate materials, coordinating with crusher or load operators Conduct pre-start and post-shift safety checks on locomotives, brakes, and railcars Respond appropriately to wayside signals, cab signals, and verbal or visual cues from ground personnel Perform basic troubleshooting, clean and lubricate equipment, and apply sand/water/fuel as needed Enforce mine safety standards (i.e. MSHA) and log daily reports regarding freight movement and any maintenance issues Operate heavy equipment in mining operations to include dozers, excavators, loaders, haul trucks, etc. Other duties as assigned
Experience and Skills:
Key Qualifications Prior experience operating locomotives, rail yard switching, or rail freight operations preferred Experience in an aggregates or quarry environment is a strong plus Ability to perform inspection, basic maintenance and safety checks on locomotives and rail yard equipment Strong communication skills, including radio/hand signal proficiency and ability to coordinate with others Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment; climbing on/off equipment, working outside in varying weather conditions, standing for long periods and moving about heavy equipment and rail operations Working knowledge of safety regulations applicable to quarry operations - i.e., MSHA Flexibility to work required shift schedule, overtime, occasional weekends or unscheduled assignments as quarry rail operations demand Must adhere to all safety protocols and use of required personal protective equipment Experience in operating mining heavy equipment to include dozers, excavators, loaders, haul trucks, etc.
