The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: Primary Operates various equipment, including but not limited to, dump truck, backhoe, street saw, blacktop roller, air compressor, sewer cleaning truck, and related attachments in effecting the general repair, maintenance, and construction of water and sewer lines. Digs ditches in order to repair and replace piping, refills ditches, and patches roads. Hauls, dumps, and shovels crushed stone, sand, dirt, and asphalt using appropriate equipment. Performs regular vehicle and equipment maintenance to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functioning. Performs related duties as assigned. Supervises work crew as needed when Lineman is not on duty. Job Requirements High school education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of and skill in the operation of department vehicles and related equipment. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B with air brakes) within probationary period. Current CDL-B or CDL-A holders preferred. Knowledge of the standard practices and procedures for repair, maintenance, and construction of water, wastewater and storm water infrastructure. Minimum of two years of water and wastewater utility excavating experience, preferred. Knowledge of safety precautions for working in or around department vehicles and equipment, including ability to operate equipment in confined areas. Difficulty of Work and Personal Work Relationship Difficulty of Work Incumbent performs duties which require frequent bending, lifting, pushing and/or pulling of equipment and tools. Incumbent is required to remain standing and working for long periods of time and is exposed to jolting, bumping, and vibrations when operating equipment. Incumbent performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.
