Job Description

Job Title:
Roller Operator - Night Shift Job Description This role operates heavy equipment to compact and finish-grade soil and rock on large commercial and civil construction projects. Based primarily in Lebanon, IN, you will work on open farmland job sites, focusing on earthwork and earth moving to ensure stable, well-compacted surfaces, including preparation to prevent soil freezing in winter. The position requires long shifts, frequent outdoor work in all weather conditions, and flexibility to travel to additional sites, including out-of-state locations, as project needs evolve. Responsibilities Operate a roller to compact and finish-grade soil and rock on commercial job sites, providing the final touch after subsurface has been brought to grade. Use off-road dump trucks and haul trucks to move earth and rock efficiently and safely within the job site. Support earthwork and earth moving operations in commercial and civil construction environments, including large open-field projects. Ensure safe and efficient loading and unloading of dirt and materials, including pulling behind scrapers when required. Follow a strict work schedule, typically working 10-12+ hour shifts from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with potential for extended Saturday hours. Maintain readiness and flexibility to be transferred to other job sites, including out-of-state locations, as project demands change. Adhere to all site safety protocols and OSHA standards, including the site code of conduct and any project-specific safety procedures. Maintain continuous communication with supervisors and coworkers to coordinate movements and ensure safe operations amid high levels of site activity. Stay fully attentive while operating equipment, avoiding distractions and maintaining strong awareness of surroundings at all times. Present a professional appearance and demonstrate professional behavior in line with site expectations and code of conduct. Care for and properly operate assigned equipment, reporting any issues or maintenance needs promptly. Essential Skills Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, particularly rollers used for soil and rock compaction. Hands-on experience in commercial construction environments involving earthwork and earth moving. Hands-on experience in civil construction projects, including working on large open-field sites. Ability to safely operate off-road dump trucks and haul trucks on active construction sites. Valid driver's license. Ability to submit to and pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check. Ability to work 10-12+ hour shifts, Monday through Saturday, on a consistent basis. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Strong communication skills and situational awareness in busy, equipment-heavy environments. Commitment to following OSHA safety standards and strict site safety protocols. Additional Skills & Qualifications Willingness to travel to other job sites, including out-of-state locations, as business needs require. Flexibility to work varying shifts and extended hours when project schedules demand it. Capability to be insured to operate company vehicles for travel to other job sites, expanding opportunities across multiple regions. Comfort working around multiple types of heavy equipment, including tractors, scrapers, and other earthmoving machinery. Work Environment The primary work environment is an open farmland civil construction site in Lebanon, IN, with additional opportunities to work at other locations across the country. You will work outdoors in all weather conditions typical of Indiana and similar climates, including hot, humid summers with potential thunderstorms and cold winters with rain, freezing rain, snow, wind, and extreme temperatures. The site operates under rigorous OSHA-aligned safety protocols, with a high level of heavy equipment activity and vehicle traffic, making communication and constant awareness critical. Shifts typically run 10-12+ hours, Monday through Saturday, and may include extended hours as project needs require. Professional appearance and behavior are expected at all times, in accordance with the site code of conduct, which emphasizes safety, respect, and accountability. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
