Heavy Equipment Operator About Comer Construction Inc . Comer Construction Inc. is a woman-owned construction company specializing in site development and heavy civil construction. Position Summary Comer Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator who can safely and efficiently operate a variety of construction equipment used in all phases of site development. We are looking for a well-rounded operator , not someone limited to one machine. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating equipment ranging from rollers and skid steers to loaders, dozers, and excavators and understands what it takes to complete a site from initial excavation through final grading. Responsibilities Operate excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, skid steers, rollers, and other heavy equipment. Perform mass excavation and site grading. Perform fine grading to required elevations and tolerances. Excavate for utilities, structures, stormwater facilities, roads, and other site improvements. Load dump trucks safely and efficiently. Backfill and compact trenches and structures. Spread, grade, and compact stone, soil, and other materials. Perform road and parking lot subgrade preparation. Cut and maintain slopes, swales, ditches, and building pads. Work around underground utilities and other jobsite obstacles. Read grade stakes and understand basic site plans and elevations. Work with laborers, pipe crews, truck drivers, foremen, and other operators to keep production moving. Perform daily pre-shift inspections and report equipment defects or maintenance needs. Keep assigned equipment clean and properly maintained. Follow company safety policies and jobsite requirements at all times. Assist with general sitework duties when equipment operation is not required. Equipment Experience Applicants should have experience with several of the following: Excavators Bulldozers Wheel loaders Skid steers / compact track loaders Rollers and compactors Articulated haul trucks Backhoes Other grading and earthmoving equipment Qualifications Previous heavy equipment operating experience in commercial sitework, excavation, or land development preferred. Ability to operate multiple types of equipment safely and productively. Strong understanding of grading, excavation, loading, backfilling, and compaction. Ability to perform both rough grading and fine grading. Ability to read grade stakes and follow elevations. Must understand safe operation around employees, trucks, utilities, structures, and other equipment. Dependable and able to report to work on time. Willing to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Must be able to work as part of a crew and take direction from project supervision. Valid driver's license preferred. You should be able to jump on a roller when needed, load trucks with a loader or excavator, cut grade with a dozer, perform fine grading, excavate around utilities, and help the crew wherever needed.
