Job Description
Position SummaryThe Equipment Operator will support daily landfill waste processing operations. This individual is responsible for operating the landfill in compliance with management direction and applicable regulations. Duties include waste placement and compaction, traffic and dust control, daily cover requirements, and assistance with fleet maintenance. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and able to communicate compliance issues effectively to management. This position works under the direction of the Operations Manager. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are representative of the work performed but are not intended to be all-inclusive. Operate and maintain landfill equipment, including landfill compactors, loaders, bulldozers, excavators, roll-off trucks, haul trucks, and water trucks. Perform general equipment maintenance such as greasing, fueling, oil and hydraulic fluid changes, and interior/exterior cleaning. Perform daily waste processing functions, ensuring proper waste placement, compaction, daily cover, and asbestos cover, including required documentation and photographs. Communicate landfill compliance and regulatory issues to the Operations Manager and assist in resolving issues as time permits. Monitor the waste stream for prohibited materials and report concerns to the scale operator, including required photographic documentation. Perform general labor duties, including scrap tire processing; cleanup of televisions, mattresses, electronics, and refrigerant-containing appliances; site cleanup; and snow removal as needed. Assist with fleet and site maintenance as required. Work EnvironmentWork is performed both indoors and outdoors. Employees may be exposed to heat, noise, dust, objectionable odors, and extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold, and wind. Exposure to these conditions may occur for extended periods of time. Preferred Qualifications Class B CDL (or willingness to obtain, at the company's expense) Ability to safely operate and maintain landfill equipment Understanding of general landfill construction concepts Ability to assess risk and identify safety hazards Strong communication skills and dependability CompensationEmployee base rate will be commensurate with experience.
