Full Job Description About Us:
Topland Construction is a locally owned and operated excavation contractor specializing in site preparation, grading, utility installation and engineered retaining walls. Position Summary:
The Equipment Operator/Driver is responsible for operating and mobilization of heavy machinery and equipment used in excavation, site development, and utility projects. This role requires strong attention to safety, precision, and teamwork to ensure all work meets company standards and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation & Mobilization Safely transport heavy equipment, materials, and attachments to and from project sites. Load, secure, and unload machinery in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment. Maintain accurate logbooks, inspection records, and delivery documentation. Coordinate mobilization schedules with project managers and site supervisors. Ensure compliance with all MTO/DOT regulations and company safety policies. Equipment Operation Operate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, compactors, and related machinery. Assist with excavation, grading, site preparation, material handling, and general earthworks. Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance. Identify and report equipment issues, hazards, or maintenance needs. Work safely around underground utilities, structures, and active job sites. Site Support Assist crews with general construction duties as required. Support site setup, cleanup, and material organization. Work collaboratively with operators, foremen, laborers, and management. Follow project schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards. Participate in daily safety meetings and adhere to all company procedures.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in excavation, construction, or related fields. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required). Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and safety procedures. Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively. Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and operate machinery for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed. Comfortable working in dirt, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
