Full Job Description Summary:
Kamps is looking to hire a Switcher Operator. In this position you will be responsible for efficiently and safely maneuvering vehicles within a designated area as well as some local deliveries and pickups. You will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of operations by organizing the movement of trailers and other equipment. This position requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Hours:
5:30am-3:00pm Monday-Friday, Potential for Saturday work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate trucks or other designated vehicles to move trailers, ensuring timely delivery to loading docks or designated parking spots Delivering/ picking up loads from customers within a 5-10-mile radius. Arrange trailers in a manner that optimizes space utilization and facilitates easy access for loading and unloading operations Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other personnel to prioritize tasks, receive instructions, and update the status of yard activities Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents or incidents, including the proper use of safety equipment Conduct routine inspections of trucks, trailers, and other equipment to ensure they are in proper working condition, reporting any defects or issues to maintenance personnel Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and any relevant notes Be prepared to work in various weather conditions and adapt to changing priorities or operational demands as necessary This list of duties is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that senior management may deem necessary.
Qualifications/Skills:
Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record 2 years experience operating yard trucks or similar heavy equipment required Ability to operate vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, including backing and maneuvering in tight spaces Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately Physical fitness and stamina required for prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating vehicles
