Job Description

Job Summary We are a small private utility contractor seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer to join our construction team. This role involves operating equipment and performing skilled utility construction work on water, sewer, electric, and fiber projects. The ideal candidate will have experience operating various types of heavy machinery on construction sites, ensuring safety and efficiency in all operations. This role requires mechanical aptitude, familiarity with construction equipment, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for handling equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and trucks to support various construction projects. Responsibilities Operate heavy machinery including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, trenchers, compactors, dump trucks and other construction equipment safely and efficiently Install and repair underground utilities (water, sewer, electric, fiber) Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and compaction Read and follow utility locates, plans, and job specifications Work safely around live utilities Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance Assist with traffic control, jobsite setup, and restoration Follow OSHA and company safety policies Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning Assist with site preparation, grading, excavation, and material handling Coordinate with team members to complete project tasks efficiently and on schedule Follow all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities Requirements 3-5+ years of utility construction experience Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and similar machinery Construction site experience is highly preferred, including knowledge of underground utility work Mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting Valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a plus Ability to work outdoors in all weather and perform physical labor Strong understanding of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation and construction sites Prior experience with Caterpillar equipment or similar brands is beneficial What We Offer Competitive pay with prevailing wage opportunities Simple IRA retirement plan Access to health insurance which the employer pays a portion of the monthly premium Steady work with a growing small contractor This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects utilizing a wide range of heavy machinery while contributing to safe and efficient construction operations.
Pay:
$25.00 - $65.00 per hour
