Equipment Operator Job Description This role involves safely and efficiently moving materials throughout a construction jobsite and data center environment using both manual methods and powered material handling equipment. The equipment operator ensures timely and accurate placement of materials to support ongoing construction activities while following all safety standards and site procedures. Responsibilities Operate material handling equipment, including Lull telehandlers and forklifts, to move, load, and unload materials around the jobsite. Assist with manual material handling tasks when needed to ensure efficient movement and staging of materials. Transport materials using a flatbed truck when required, following all applicable safety and site guidelines. Inspect equipment before use, identify any issues, and report or address basic maintenance needs to keep equipment in safe operating condition. Follow all safety protocols, including those covered by OSHA 10 training, and maintain a clean and organized work area. Coordinate with site supervisors and team members to ensure materials are delivered to the correct locations in a timely manner. Operate equipment in tight or congested areas with care, maintaining awareness of personnel, structures, and other equipment. Adhere to all site-specific rules and procedures within the construction and data center environment. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience operating material handling equipment in a construction or similar environment. Demonstrated experience operating Lull forklifts and telehandlers; Lull forklift experience is required. Proficiency operating standard forklifts for material handling tasks. Ability to safely handle and move materials both manually and with powered equipment. Current OSHA 10 certification. Strong awareness of safety practices and ability to follow safety procedures consistently. Ability to work effectively on an active construction site and adapt to changing site conditions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating a flatbed truck for material transport is preferred. Prior experience working on large construction projects or data center sites. Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to coordinate material movement. Capability to perform basic equipment inspections and recognize potential mechanical issues. Work Environment This position is based on an active construction site within a data center environment. You will work around heavy equipment, building materials, and ongoing construction activities, requiring consistent attention to safety and situational awareness. The role involves working outdoors and indoors, depending on project needs, and may include exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and dust typical of construction sites. You will regularly operate Lull telehandlers, forklifts, and potentially flatbed trucks, using standard construction tools and material handling equipment. Work hours follow typical construction schedules and may require flexibility to support project timelines. Appropriate work attire, including required personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses, gloves, and work boots, is expected at all times on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ridgeland, MS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
