Job Description - Summary Surry Community College is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator instructor to deliver classroom and hands-on instruction to adult learners enrolled in workforce training programs. This position focuses on teaching safe and effective operation of heavy equipment and preparing students for employment in the construction industry. Flexible schedule to include day, afternoon, evening, or weekend classes based on program needs. This role is well-suited for retired or semi-retired heavy equipment operators who are interested in sharing their professional experience, mentoring students, and contributing to helping train the future workforce. This position supports short-term workforce training designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in construction and related fields.

Teaching experience not required Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in heavy equipment operation (e.g., dozers, excavators, dump truck)
Teach construction safety, OSHA standards, and jobsite practices
Demonstrate basic equipment maintenance and inspection

Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., dozer, excavator, dump truck) in a construction or industrial setting
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Relevant industry experience in heavy equipment operation
Knowledge of construction safety and equipment practices Preferred Qualifications NCCER, OSHA, or related industry certifications
Prior teaching or training experience Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Established for each curriculum program. Contact Director for specifics.
