The City of Jacksonville is looking for an Equipment Operator I for the Streets Division in Public Services. This is an exciting opportunity to come join our team and receive training and career development geared towards advancing a career in public services. Equipment Operators are often responsible for a wide variety of jobs. Operators should be comfortable in the regular operation of backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, front loaders, bucket truck and light construction equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. •The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $38,078.51 - $49,502.46.•Starting salary is dependent on relevant education and experience Learn more about the Streets Department HERE!!! Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Operating light construction equipment in the performance of maintenance and repair tasks. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. This position will be working specifically in the open stormwater section of the Streets Department, and essential functions/typical tasks include Operating mini excavator, backhoe, front loader, tandem dump trucks, bucket truck and related equipment in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and utility lines. Mowing public rights-of-way and City property . Applying herbicides and pesticides using motorized sprayer and handheld sprayer. Utilizing weed eaters and chain saws to cut ditch banks and expose flow lines of ditches. Use of survey equipment to evaluate elevations. Performing duties of Maintenance Worker when not operating equipment. Performing related tasks as required. Required Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe operation of a backhoe and excavator is required for this position. CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of the probationary period. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating light construction equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
