An Operating Engineer or Heavy Equipment Operator drives and operates heavy equipment used in quarries, construction sites, landfills, refuse and recycling centers, or ports. Heavy Equipment may include, but is not limited to, bulldozers, excavators, paving equipment and pile drivers.

Nature of Work
This is semi-skilled work in the operation of a variety of medium sized and heavy motorized equipment. Operates a variety of medium sized and heavy motorized equipment including rear-load garbage truck and Automated Side Load (ASL) garbage truck, backhoe, dozers, sewer jet truck, large tractors, specialized mowing machines, asphalt pavers, sewer vac-all, road graders, large dozers, scrappers, sweepers, and the like. Education, Experience, Other Requirements
Completion of high school and six years of experience in the operation of medium and heavy motorized equipment, two years of which must have been at the Equipment Operator-Medium level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

The assigned salary range for Heavy Equipment Operator under the 2026 is a Grade 54, with an annual base salary range of $48,118-$71,432, which is an hourly wage of $23.13-$34.34 per hour.
This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position eligible for overtime.
