Conduct a yard check at the beginning of each shift to identify and document all trailers and equipment on site. Record the status of equipment, including whether trailers are loaded, empty, available for loading, or require follow-up. Safely operate a switch tractor to move trailers, containers, and equipment within Company property only. Position trailers at docks, staging areas, loading areas, storage locations, or other designated areas as directed. Communicate proactively with operations/plant personnel regarding trailer status and availability. Maintain accurate yard inventory information and report discrepancies or issues promptly. Perform pre-use inspections of assigned yard equipment and promptly report safety, mechanical, or maintenance concerns. Monitor yard conditions and trailer placement to support safe traffic flow and efficient operations. Respond to operational needs with a sense of urgency while maintaining safe work practices at all times. Follow all Company safety policies, site traffic procedures, PPE requirements, and operating rules. Perform other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed: 2+ years experience operating as a yard jockey, switcher driver, or similar role.
Valid Drivers license in good standing.
High awareness to safety at all times.
Ability to safely maneuver trailers using a switch tractor in a yard, dock, or industrial environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate yard/equipment records. Proactive communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with multiple departments. Demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established safety procedures.

Recycling Management Resources is seeking a Yard Jockey for our Barrington, NJ facility. The Yard Jockey is responsible for safely and efficiently relocating trailers and equipment within the limits of Company-owned private property. This role supports daily plant, warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations by ensuring trailers are properly staged, available for loading, and accurately accounted for throughout the shift. This position does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and is not governed by Department of Transportation (DOT) driving regulations because the switch tractor is operated exclusively on Company private property and does not leave Company premises. Shift hours are 7:00 AM 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with extended hours as needed.
