NATURE OF WORK
This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position with the South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA). The Heavy Equipment Operator supports landfill and Transfer Stations operation by operating heavy equipment and performing general equipment maintenance. Duties may occasionally require overtime and interaction with external customers in a courteous and respectful manner. Schedules may include extended hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Regular attendance is essential to ensure continuity of service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates various heavy equipment, including water wagon, dump truck, compactor, excavator, bulldozer, road-grader, loader, chippers, shredders and other specialized solid waste and recycling equipment at SCSWA facilities. Inspect vehicles and equipment which include tire pressures, re-fueling, check various fluids to include motor oil, coolant level, hydraulic oil. Reports on mechanical issues, and schedules routine repairs and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. Assists other SCSWA facilities as needed and crew members with other tasks when not operating equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
(s): Valid Class (D) Driver's License No DUI or DWI convictions within the past twenty-four (24) months. No moving violations within the past twelve (12) months
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic reading and writing skills. Ability to interact respectfully with SCSWA staff and the general public. Intermediate math skills, including understanding linear, square, and cubic measurements. Ability to perform repetitive, short-cycle tasks with precision. Basic computer skills required.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
Work is performed and includes exposure to all weather conditions, noise, dust, fumes, and dirt. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, including safety vests, gloves, shoes, respirators, hearing protection, and eye protection. The employee must have the ability to frequently move or reposition up to 50lbs of materials or objects. The position demands physical strength and mobility to operate heavy equipment and perform manual tasks, including bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, kneeling, squatting, pushing/pulling, and reaching above shoulder level.
WORK SITUATION FACTORS
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and the Authority's policies.
Pay:
$19.14 - $35.25 per hour
