POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Asphalt Roller Operator to support our paving operations on highway and civil infrastructure projects. In this role, you will be responsible for operating rollers to achieve proper compaction and a smooth, durable asphalt surface. Your attention to detail and timing will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and longevity of finished pavement.
JOB DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS
Operate steel drum and/or pneumatic rollers to compact asphalt to required density and smoothness. Work closely with the paving crew to maintain proper rolling patterns and timing. Monitor mat temperature and conditions to ensure optimal compaction results. Adjust rolling techniques based on material type, weather, and jobsite conditions. Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Communicate effectively with foreman, paver operator, and crew members to ensure efficient workflow. Ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Participate in daily safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks. Assist with general labor tasks when needed. Train and assist less experienced crew members as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have valid driver's license with positive driving history. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of asphalt compaction methods, rolling patterns, and material behavior. Understanding of density requirements and quality standards. Familiarity with roller operation, controls, and maintenance. Ability to recognize and correct surface imperfections during rolling.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 13 years of experience operating asphalt rollers preferred. Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends. Ability to travel and work out of town when required. Ability to work in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly. Comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Capable of climbing on and off heavy equipment safely. Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and boots. Travel within Oklahoma and North Texas is required.
