Full Job Description General Functions:

The Equipment Operator I performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks within the Streets and Drainage Department. Responsibilities include road construction and repair, drainage system installation and maintenance, and general upkeep of public infrastructure. While many duties are routine, the position requires independent judgment and the ability to safely operate various types of equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Comply with all established work and safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Conduct thorough pre-operation inspections of equipment; report any defects or malfunctions to the supervisor prior to use or repair.
• Operate equipment safely, accurately, and efficiently. Perform preventive maintenance and minor field repairs as needed.
• Construct, maintain, and repair streets, approaches, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, drainage systems, parking areas, and other public infrastructure.
• Includes asphalt work such as tear-out, relay, overlay, and pothole repair.
• Includes concrete work such as forming, pouring, and finishing.
• Operate a variety of equipment and tools, including but not limited to:
• Skid steers, backhoe-loaders, mini excavators
• Air compressors, jackhammers, asphalt kettles
• Concrete saws and crack sealing equipment
• Hand tools (e.g., transit level, shovels, rakes, chainsaws, wrenches, etc.)
• Mowing and landscaping equipment (weed eaters, zero-turn mowers, tractor mowers)
• Pesticide application equipment
• Perform work under the general supervision of the Streets Supervisor, exercising independent judgment in completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Participate in an on-call rotation schedule as assigned by the Streets Supervisor.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum acceptable qualifications:

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor and work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, city officials, and the public.
• Possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.

Additional/Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience in concrete and/or asphalt construction, maintenance, and repair.
• Experience operating dump trucks, tractors, and various mowing equipment.
• Experience in municipal street or public works operations.
• Experience in landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, or related fieldwork.

This job classification has been designated a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.

Pay:

$19.00 - $24.79 per hour
