DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on learning how to operate highway construction and maintenance equipment while supporting a variety of manual labor tasks on crew assignments. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

Equipment Operation:

Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment safely and efficiently

License Maintenance:

Maintain required CDL credentials and complete equipment certifications during the probationary period

Traffic Control:

Perform flagging duties to support safe and effective traffic flow during work activities

Manual Labor Tasks:

Use hand tools to complete activities such as cutting brush, repairing guiderails, digging ditches, and maintaining work areas

Equipment Care:

Complete daily inspections, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure proper operation

Safety Awareness:

Follow required safety procedures and report hazards, injuries, or equipment issues promptly Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Travel, overtime, and shift work is required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

Telework:

You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.

All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.

Additional Requirements:

This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit at the time of application.
