About the
Role:
The Hydrovac Operator plays a critical role in safely and efficiently excavating soil and debris using high-pressure water and vacuum technology. This position is essential for supporting construction, utility, and infrastructure projects by providing precise and non-destructive excavation services. The operator is responsible for maneuvering hydrovac trucks to designated sites, operating equipment to expose underground utilities, and ensuring the safety of the work environment. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount to prevent damage to existing infrastructure and to protect team members and the public. Ultimately, the Hydrovac Operator contributes to the successful completion of projects by delivering accurate excavation services that minimize risk and downtime.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must have a valid CDL with a clean driving record Experience operating hydrovac or similar excavation equipment. Knowledge of underground utility identification and safe excavation practices. Ability to follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in hydrovac operation or related heavy equipment operation. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industry safety standards. Experience working in construction or utility environments. Basic mechanical skills for minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and clients.
Responsibilities:
Operate hydrovac trucks and associated equipment to perform non-destructive excavation at various job sites. Locate and expose underground utilities such as gas lines, water pipes, and electrical conduits safely and accurately. Maintain and inspect equipment daily to ensure operational safety and efficiency, reporting any mechanical issues promptly. Collaborate with site supervisors, utility companies, and other stakeholders to coordinate excavation activities and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Document work performed, including site conditions, excavation depth, and any incidents, maintaining clear and accurate records.
Skills:
The Hydrovac Operator uses technical skills daily to operate complex excavation machinery with precision and care, ensuring that underground utilities are exposed without damage. Safety skills are critical, as the operator must constantly assess the work environment and adhere to strict safety protocols to protect themselves and others. Mechanical aptitude is applied when performing routine equipment inspections and minor repairs to maintain operational readiness. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with site personnel and clients, ensuring that excavation activities align with project requirements. Problem-solving skills are essential for adapting to varying site conditions and resolving unexpected challenges efficiently.
