Job Description

Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description This role operates a variety of heavy equipment to support construction utility trenching and excavating activities. You will safely and efficiently handle excavators of various sizes, skid steers, compact track loaders, and front-end loaders while maintaining accurate documentation and following all safety protocols. The position requires a dependable operator who can work with minimal supervision, make sound decisions in the field, and consistently follow directions and site procedures. Responsibilities Operate excavators of all sizes, including 85G and smaller, with confidence and without the need for constant direction. Safely operate skid steers, compact track loaders, and front-end loaders in a construction environment. Perform construction utility trenching and excavating activities according to plans, specifications, and safety requirements. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date equipment and work activity log throughout each shift. Make accurate, safe decisions that protect yourself, your crew, and surrounding personnel and property. Consistently wear and correctly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on site. Follow directions from supervisors and crew leads and adapt to changing site conditions and priorities. Arrive on time at the designated office meeting point and participate in crew travel to and from the work site. Communicate clearly with team members to coordinate equipment movement and job tasks. Lift and handle materials and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more as part of daily duties. Work from heights when required, following all safety procedures and fall protection guidelines. Support day, night, and weekend work as needed to meet project schedules. Adhere to OSHA 10 safety standards and all company and site-specific safety policies. Demonstrate responsible, honest, and punctual behavior to support a reliable and efficient crew. Essential Skills Proficiency in heavy equipment operation, including excavators (all sizes) with at least one year of experience. Demonstrated ability to operate 85G excavators and smaller confidently and independently. Experience operating skid steers, compact track loaders, and front-end loaders. Hands-on experience in construction utility trenching and excavating. Valid driver's license. Reliable transportation to the designated office meeting point. OSHA 10 certification (required). Ability to lift 50 pounds or more safely and repeatedly. Ability to work from heights while following safety procedures. Ability to work days, nights, and weekends as project needs require. Strong communication skills to coordinate with crew members and supervisors. Ability to take direction and work effectively with minimal supervision. Consistent use of proper PPE and adherence to safety protocols. Responsible, honest, and punctual work habits. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience working on construction sites with trenching and excavation projects. Comfort working long shifts in an outdoor, field-based environment. Strong situational awareness and sound judgment in high-activity work zones. Ability to maintain accurate logs and basic documentation of work performed. Work Environment This is a field-based role in a construction environment with a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The crew meets at the Buda office at 4:45 a.m., then rides together to the work site, with drive time paid both to and from the site after clocking in at the office. You will work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites, operating heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, compact track loaders, and front-end loaders. The position requires consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA 10 safety practices. Work may include days, nights, and weekends depending on project demands, and you may be required to work from heights and lift 50 pounds or more as part of normal duties. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buda, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
