Available Benefits Help for . The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various equipment such as Backhoe, Skid Steer, Excavator, Dozer, and other miscellaneous equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of the operation, safety, and maintenance of the equipment being operated. Must possess the ability to safely operate equipment in the presence of field crew members and utilities, ensuring the safety of all persons, equipment, property, and utilities in the area. Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for adhering to all safety regulations and reporting any violations to field supervision immediately

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Practice safety rules. Follow verbal and written instructions. Safe use of hand & power tools. Report to and assist immediate supervisor. Perform quality work as determined by project specifications. Accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift. Must work well as part of a team.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to mobilize equipment being operated, including loading, unloading, securing, set up and tear down. Equipment Maintenance

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Minimum 1-2 years related experience excavating near underground utilities. Valid drivers license required. Class A CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement preferred. Interaction with Others (Internal/Organizational and External/Customer Contact): Some contact with others, including organization personnel and general public. Purpose of contact is to provide or obtain explanation or interpretation of information. Requires normal courteous interaction and basic interpersonal skills and tact to communicate with others. Non-routine inquiries and/or complaints are referred to others. Other limited external contact may be required to obtain information and/or to make inquiries of others.

Problem Solving:

Problems generally involve the selection of choices from standard procedures, organizing work and checking results. Answers are usually found from selecting from standard choices determined by work policies or procedures. Decision Making Some independent judgment is necessary to select and apply the most appropriate solution, with frequent discussion/contact with a supervisor. Makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation. Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must comply with companys drug and alcohol abuse policy. Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.) Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
