Heavy Equipment Operator Mission, TX Job Details Full-time $16 an hour 21 hours ago Qualifications Front-end loaders Excavator Groundskeeping High school diploma or GED Driver's License Driving Industrial equipment Backhoe operation Hydraulics Construction workplace safety regulations Mechanical knowledge Full Job Description Under the supervision of the Distribution Superintendent, operates and maintains heavy equipment to include backhoe, excavator, front end loader and tractor. Operates equipment in support of new water line installations, water line repairs, valve installations, valve repairs, sludge removal, sludge hauling, grounds maintenance, pavement repairs, and concrete repairs. Responsible for the safe operation of all assigned equipment. Operates equipment to excavate or move soils, rock, sand gravel and other materials Performs variety of tasks including trenching and placement of underground infrastructure. Works in proximity of underground utilities such as water, electric, telephone, and gas. Locates utilities and other buried lines prior to digging utilizing Texas 811 system. Locate and identify all underground utilities by means of hand-digging, shovel or vac system. Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading. Ensures that all trench safety is applied according to OSHA standards. May drive machinery on roadways to workplace. Moves heavy equipment using trailers. Performs non-machine tasks such as placing pipe in trench, hand digging, and tapping. Replaces angle stops, meter boxes, and meters. Completes and fills out work orders. Keeps equipment serviced, lubricated, and in good working order. Must be on call as assigned on nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather and especially during emergency situations. Performs other job duties as assigned. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards. Knowledge of hydraulics and mechanics of the machine Knowledge of different soil types. Understanding of control levers for operation of equipment. Understanding of safe excavation and proper trenching procedures. Understanding of the Texas 811 system. Ability to operate both ends of a backhoe safely and efficiently for the purpose of digging, loading, and cleaning up a job site. Ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team. Education and Experience High School Diploma preferred. 3 years related experience and/or training. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Special Requirements Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Tools and Equipment Used Backhoe - Required experience Excavator Front-end loader Tractor and attachments Lawnmowers and weed eaters Trailers Trucks Wrenches, screwdrivers, pneumatic and electric tools, and tapping machines Physical Demands Work is performed in an outdoor setting. Hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate machinery. This position requires lifting up to 80 pounds. Must be able to walk, stand and maneuver in steep or uneven terrain in all kinds of weather conditions. Considerable outdoor trenching work is required in the installation and repair of water lines, water meters, meter boxes, and valves. Must be able to safely ingress and egress a trench.
