Position Overview This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt roller machine. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)- Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.
- Thorough understanding of preparatory work required, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment. Expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
- Review safety and risk assessment, daily production goals and crew member responsibilities.
- Identify, Locate, Mark, and Communicate overhead hazard with others on the crew and truck drivers.
- Locate, identify, and mark project specific hazards.
- Understand procedures in the event of an incident.
- Conduct documented task training prior to equipment use.
- Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.
- May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Work Requirements
- Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred. Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
