Overview We are seeking a motivated and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator II to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will operate and maintain a variety of construction machinery to support infrastructure projects, utility work, and site development. Your expertise will help ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality construction activities while adhering to all safety regulations and operational standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale projects that shape communities and industries. Sign-On Bonus This position is eligible for a $1,500 Sign-On Bonus . The bonus will be paid in two installments: $750 after 90 days of continuous employment$750 after 6 months of continuous employment To be eligible for each payment, the employee must be actively employed and in good standing on the applicable payout date. Applicable taxes and withholdings will be deducted from each payment.
Job Summary:
Operates heavy mobile equipment specific to scrap operations area to include a mobile crane with a hydraulic grapple or front end loader to process, handle, and weigh scrap material. Unload scrap material from incoming sources and load scrap from existing piles onto transport or non-ferrous processing equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for safely operating mobile equipment to include hydraulic grapple crane, magnet crane, front end loader and other mobile equipment in scrap operations. Exercises extreme care in picking up and transporting loads, clearing obstacles and properly positioning lifts to prevent production delays, damage to equipment or property and/or injury to others. Maintains heightened awareness of surroundings at all times to include pedestrians, mobile equipment, rail traffic, etc. Inspect scrap for any non-conforming material for quality, grade, and safety purposes. This inspection process is critical to the operation and requires continuous attention in order to avoid errors and equipment damage. Sort and separate scrap according to grade in order to properly maintain scrap piles for inventory control. Watch operation of surrounding conveyors and equipment, and communicate any problems to responsible personnel. Move and weigh material, accurately recording weight, product, and location. Functions as relief for the Mobile Equipment Operator positions requiring versatility to adequately carry out the normal operator duties during the substitution period. Perform routine equipment care such as lubrication, greasing, fueling and cleaning of mobile equipment.
Additional Responsibilities:
Monitor all loads and material for potential fire hazards. Follows all PPE requirements and safety rules/guidelines for all tasks being performed. Maintains communication with coworkers through two-way radio and hand signals. Work independently and as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Engagement in GBS tools and methodology. Complete training requirements to step up to the next job grade. Assists maintenance and operations personnel as needed. All other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred Basic computer and math skills. 1-3 years of mobile equipment experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, and push and pull objects. Ability to reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting. Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. Ability to operate hand controls with both hands and foot pedals with both feet. Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching. Ability to work in extreme ambient temperatures up to 160°F. Ability to work in cramped quarters and at heights. Ability to work a rotating shift schedule including days, nights and weekends. Ability to tolerate working in areas where noise levels can reach 120 decibels.
