Excavator Operator - Pipe Division

Overview William A. Hazel, Inc. , a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator in the Pipe Division. This position plays a key role in underground utility installation, including water, sewer, and storm systems. We're looking for someone who understands precision, safety, and production in a fast-paced field environment. Responsibilities Operate excavators to install underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) Perform trenching, grading, and backfilling with attention to line and grade Work closely with pipe layers and foremen to maintain production and accuracy Safely excavate around existing utilities and structures Read and understand grade stakes, trench boxes, and basic plans Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance Follow all safety protocols, especially trench safety and confined space awareness Requirements 3+ years of excavator experience in underground utility work Strong understanding of trenching, pipe installation support, and grade control Ability to work around live utilities safely Experience working with trench boxes and shoring systems Reliable, team-oriented, and able to take direction in the field Willingness to work overtime as needed Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
