Heavy Equipment Operator (High Overtime Potential)
Pay:
$20-28+/hour Job Overview We're hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to support a large-scale, high-profile tunnel project . This role offers a compressed work schedule with long shifts , making it ideal for operators who want consistent hours and significant overtime opportunities . You'll work a Friday-Monday schedule , 12-hour shifts (days or nights), operating heavy construction equipment in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. Days:
6:00 AM - 6:00
PM Nights:
6:00 PM - 6:00 AM Plenty of overtime available due to project demands and shift structure What You'll Do Operate heavy construction equipment including: Bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, rollers Front-end loaders, scrapers, tractors, pumps, and compressors Excavate, move, and grade earth to project specifications Assist with erecting structures and pouring concrete or hard surface pavement Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to ensure equipment runs safely and efficiently Communicate clearly with teammates, supervisors, and spotters to maintain productivity and safety Follow all safety procedures and site regulations at all times What We're Looking For Required Skills & Experience 3+ years of hands-on experience operating heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, rollers, front-end loaders, etc.) Strong understanding of construction site safety practices Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Physically capable of climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials Solid communication skills and strong attention to detail Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (strongly preferred) Experience on large infrastructure, bridge, or tunnel projects is a plus Why You'll Want This Job ✅ High overtime potential - long shifts and project-driven demand mean bigger paychecks ✅ Work on one of the largest tunnel projects in the region ✅ Stable, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent ✅ Benefits available for permanent roles, including: Paid Time Off (PTO) Federal holidays ✅ Consistent schedule with predictable days and nights ✅ Be part of a skilled crew building critical infrastructure Work Environment Outdoor construction site on a major bridge/tunnel project Exposure to varying weather conditions Physically demanding work requiring strict adherence to safety standards Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
