Job Description
Job Overview Mountain View Earthworks is seeking an experienced Senior Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. We are looking for someone who understands civil construction, can work from civil plans, understands grades and elevations, and is comfortable operating around workers on the ground and in tight spaces. Our work includes excavation, underground utilities, stormwater systems, site development, and other heavy civil projects throughout Southern Vermont. We frequently work on technically challenging projects where accuracy, productivity, planning, and precise equipment operation are critical. Responsibilities The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator / Civil Construction Lead will be responsible for: Safely and efficiently operating excavators, loaders, dozers, skid steers, compactors, and other construction equipment. Performing excavation for utilities, drainage systems, roads, sitework, and stormwater infrastructure. Reading and understanding construction plans, specifications, elevations, and site layouts. Understanding proper trenching, pipe installation, bedding, backfill, compaction, and drainage practices. Determining efficient sequences of construction. Coordinating trucks and materials as necessary. Communicating clearly with project management, inspectors, engineers, customers, and other crew members. Performing daily equipment inspections and greasing, and identifying maintenance or repair issues before they become major problems. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe jobsite. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: 5+ years of heavy equipment operating experience, preferably in civil/site construction. Experience operating excavators equipped with tiltrotators and GPS machine-control systems is preferred, but not required. Ability to read construction plans and understand elevations and grades. Strong understanding of excavation, compaction, drainage, and sitework. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to lead and communicate with a small crew. Strong mechanical awareness and respect for equipment. Good judgment and the ability to make practical decisions in the field. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. CDL is a plus but not required. Schedule This is a full-time, year-round position based out of Mount Holly, Vermont, with travel to project sites throughout Southern Vermont and the surrounding region.
