The Painter preserves the condition and appearance of all interior and exterior surfaces on campus by applying paint and protective coatings.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Calculate and provide cost analysis, estimates, and timeframes for all types of finish and coating jobs.
- Purchase and record all products necessary for assigned jobs.
- Repair and prep surfaces appropriately and apply applicable coatings.
- Design and create vinyl graphics using computer-aided design, software, and plotters for all informational and directional signage on campus; maintain the university branding.
- Install, tape, and finish new gypsum wallboards.
- Repair damage to existing sheetrock, blockwork, brick, and other surfaces.
- Apply stains, varnishes, lacquers, alkyds, and epoxies to wood and metal furniture, doors, frames, floors, and handrails.
- Layout and stripe parking lot spaces, safety and directional markings, crosswalks, and curbing; apply high build asphalt marking paint using specialized spray equipment.
- Provide guidance and training to others as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of solvents, chemicals, and VOC off-gassing levels.
- Extensive knowledge of paint types and compositions and volatile organic compounds.
- Knowledge of wall coverings and panel finishing for remodels and new construction.
- Knowledge of the different types of stains and finishes for the restoration of furniture.
- Knowledge of industrial coatings and application practices.
- Knowledge of relevant safety requirements, and the ability to maintain a safe working area.
- Good computer skills and the ability to use the software applications necessary to create graphics and signs.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

- This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have one to three years of painting experience.
- A valid driver's license is required. Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
- Position requires heavy physical activity, and the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach.
- Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
- Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
- Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
