Job Description

Position Summary Shelburne Museum is seeking a Seasonal Painter to assist with the preservation and maintenance of the historic Ticonderoga Steamboat. Reporting to the Ticonderoga Curator within the Preservation & Facilities Department, this 12-week seasonal position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the care of one of the museum's most significant structures while helping ensure its preservation for future generations. The Seasonal Painter will perform surface preparation, painting, and preservation-related tasks under the direction of the Ticonderoga Curator. The ideal candidate will have painting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment. Schedule 32 hours per week for a 12-week seasonal assignment Typical schedule is Monday through Thursday Most workdays will be approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in scheduling may be available based on project needs and candidate availability Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare surfaces for painting through cleaning, scraping, sanding, and priming. Apply paint, coatings, and finishes to designated areas of the Ticonderoga Steamboat. Assist with preservation and maintenance projects that support the long-term care of the vessel. Follow all safety procedures related to ladders, tools, equipment, and materials. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Safely transport and handle painting supplies and equipment. Work collaboratively with museum staff to support preservation goals. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous painting, construction, maintenance, historic preservation, or related experience preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship; demonstrates care and precision when working in historic and collection-focused environments. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
