Our work is mostly in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and surrounding area, so we are looking for someone who lives in that general area. We do not perform any residential or multi-family work. Most work will be in educational and state government settings. This is a hands-on, "working superintendent" position. The person we hire will need to be able to lead at least one helper and may lead a larger team from time to time.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems
- Plan, install, assemble, maintain, and repair pipes, fittings, hydronic equipment, and fixtures of piping systems
- Cut, thread, and bend pipes using power tools or hand tools
- Braze and solder pipes and fittings together
- Ability to perform pipe fit-up and tack welding is required. Certified welder capable of completing full welds is preferred and considered a strong asset.
- Test piping systems for leaks and ensure proper functioning
- Collaborate with other construction professionals to coordinate installations and repairs
- Adhere to safety standards and building codes
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a pipefitter
- Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and specifications
- Knowledge of power tools and their safe usage
- Familiarity with piping techniques for joining copper, PVC, CPVC, and steel piping systems
- Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of piping systems
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must have a valid driver's license and be approved by our insurance company to drive our vehicles
- Must be able to pass customer background checks Normal working hours are 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
Some overtime and weekend work will be required. Almost all work is in the Triangle area. In order to properly perform the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, hear and use hands and fingers to grasp, handle, and feel. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb up and down ladders and crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. This position requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires frequent work outdoors and inside mechanical and equipment rooms, with regular exposure to extreme hot and cold weather conditions. This position is regularly exposed to electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, and heavy equipment, as well as wet and humid conditions, elevated and precarious workplaces, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
