Job Description The Pipefitter Journeyman will play a central role in the installation, modification, and repair of piping systems across commercial and industrial jobsites, with a focus on HVAC and mechanical systems. This is a skilled, hands-on position that demands both technical precision and the ability to plan and sequence work efficiently in dynamic construction environments. You'll be working on complex, high-performing mechanical systems where the quality of your work directly impacts building performance and client satisfaction. Day-to-day, you will collaborate with project foremen, fellow tradespeople, and other crews to coordinate installation sequences, resolve field conflicts, and keep projects on schedule. From selecting pipe types and materials to welding, testing, and securing finished systems, you will own the full pipefitting scope on your assigned projects. The ideal candidate brings journeyman-level experience, a strong understanding of piping codes, and the spatial reasoning to translate plans into precise, code-compliant installations. Duties and Responsibilities Select appropriate pipe types and sizes based on job specifications and project drawings. Inspect worksites to identify obstructions and ensure structural integrity prior to installation. Plan installation sequences to avoid conflicts with other trades and maintain project flow. Assemble and install metal and non-metal piping systems including carbon steel, brass, copper, lead, and stainless steel. Join piping using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints as required by specifications. Secure piping systems using clamps, brackets, and hangers in accordance with code requirements. Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, and controls. Test piping systems for leaks and functionality using pressure gauges and diagnostic tools. Perform welding as required for system installation. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards. Required Experience/Skills Minimum 4 years of experience in commercial pipefitting or HVAC/mechanical systems. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Skilled in cutting, bending, welding, and assembling piping systems. Strong understanding of piping codes and installation standards. Ability to visualize three-dimensional layouts from plans and specifications. Comfortable working within precise tolerances and standards of accuracy. OSHA-10 certification required (company will provide opportunity to complete course prior to employment if not yet obtained). Valid driver's license required. Education Completion of a recognized pipefitting or mechanical apprenticeship program preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
