Locate Technician Location:
Topeka, KS 66546 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Topeka, KS. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. Key Responsibilities Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines. Use specialized equipment such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and GPS devices to detect and mark utility lines. Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and customers to provide clear and accurate locate information. Maintain detailed records of locate activities and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Perform site inspections and assess potential hazards related to underground utilities. Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Assist in training new technicians and participate in ongoing professional development. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred. Familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and underground locating equipment. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Work Environment This position involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and requires physical activity including walking, bending, and lifting. The Locate Technician will often work independently and must be able to manage time effectively.
