Job Summary:
The Plumber Utility Mechanic II performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the heating, plumbing, mechanical piping and structural steel trades. Fabricates, installs, maintains, and repairs heating, plumbing, mechanical piping systems, structural steel, package boiler equipment and water treatment, kitchen equipment, auxiliary equipment, steam, water, gas systems and other building mechanical equipment; auxiliary equipment, steam, water, sewers both sanitary and storm, irrigation systems gas and air systems and other building mechanical equipment; above and underground steam, domestic water, HVAC (chilled and hot water), sanitary and storm distribution systems; firing, tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water. Makes limited estimates from on-site inspections. Provides work leadership to other trades personnel. Drives from site to site.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Journeyman card in plumbing, pipefitting structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter and two (2) years of plumbing, pipefitting, structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge:
Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans and do material takeoffs. Must have good people skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
