The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems across the JPL campus, ensuring that all facilities operate efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities:
Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures. Conduct regular inspections of plumbing systems to identify and resolve issues. Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the longevity and reliability of plumbing systems. Collaborate with the facilities maintenance team to support overall campus operations. Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and building codes. Respond to emergency plumbing calls and provide solutions in a timely manner. Utilize hand and power tools, as well as specialized plumbing equipment. Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. Participate in ongoing training and development programs to stay current with industry standards and best practices. Duties Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including water supply lines, drainage, and waste disposal in residential and commercial buildings Interpret technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and construction plans to execute precise plumbing layouts Operate hand tools, power tools, plumbing inspection cameras, pipe threading equipment, and welding apparatus with safety and efficiency Conduct drain cleaning using specialized equipment to clear blockages and prevent future issues Perform plumbing system inspections to identify leaks, corrosion or other defects; utilize schematics for troubleshooting Maintain compliance with local building codes and safety regulations during all phases of installation and repair projects Assist with remodeling projects by installing fixtures, piping systems, and related components while coordinating with carpenters and HVAC technicians Operate company vehicles responsibly for transportation to job sites; manage heavy lifting tasks safely during installation or repair work Use basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and material estimations necessary for project completion Support construction site activities by interpreting technical drawings accurately and adhering to project timelines
Requirements Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at time.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in plumbing preferred. Valid plumbing license. Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing with a strong emphasis on facilities maintenance. Extensive knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, and tools. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces. Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to plumbing and facilities maintenance. Previous experience working in a high-tech or research facility preferred. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus. Knowledge of green building practices and sustainability initiatives preferred.
