Job Description
Job Title:
Plumber Job Description This role focuses on installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems within a community college environment. You will work on a wide range of plumbing tasks, including replacing copper lines, servicing fixtures such as sinks and toilets, and ensuring proper operation of drainage systems. You will also support general facility maintenance to keep the campus safe, functional, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. Responsibilities Replace copper lines, including sweating copper pipes, to ensure safe and reliable water distribution. Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and plumbing systems such as water heaters, sinks, toilets, and drainage systems. Perform building repairs related to plumbing, including work on sinks, toilets, and drainage components. Diagnose plumbing issues, identify root causes, and determine appropriate and cost-effective solutions. Inspect plumbing systems to identify leaks, blockages, defects, or other potential issues. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building plans to plan and execute plumbing installations and repairs. Ensure all plumbing work complies with local plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards. Respond to emergency plumbing calls as needed and provide timely resolutions to urgent issues. Snake and clear drains to remove clogs and restore proper flow in drainage systems. Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing and related building systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Conduct facility repairs related to plumbing, piping, and general building maintenance. Assist with general facilities maintenance tasks, which may include basic electrical, HVAC, painting, and general labor activities as needed. Perform inspections of plumbing and related systems to ensure ongoing functionality and safety. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe, and good working condition. Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and team members to coordinate work and ensure clear understanding of needs and expectations. Provide basic cost estimates and timelines for plumbing services when required. Essential Skills Proven experience replacing copper lines, including sweating copper pipes. Hands-on experience installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems such as water heaters, sinks, toilets, and drainage systems. Ability to diagnose plumbing issues and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions. Skill in snaking and clearing drains to resolve blockages. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building plans. Knowledge of local plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards. Experience performing plumbing inspections to identify leaks, blockages, or defects. Capability to perform facility repairs related to plumbing and piping. Strong general plumbing skills, including work with PVC and other piping materials. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and related equipment. Effective communication skills for interacting with customers, contractors, and team members. Reliability to work a consistent schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in facilities maintenance within institutional, commercial, or similar environments. Basic electrical skills to support general facility maintenance tasks. Exposure to HVAC systems and willingness to assist with related maintenance as needed. Ability to perform general labor tasks in support of broader maintenance activities. Painting experience for minor facility repair and upkeep. Comfort working from and following detailed blueprints and facility plans. Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing quality work. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a busy facilities environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a community college setting, supporting campus buildings and facilities. You will work primarily on site during a daytime schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, including mechanical rooms, restrooms, utility spaces, and general campus areas. You will use standard plumbing tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, torches for sweating copper, drain snakes, and other facilities maintenance tools. The environment is hands-on and may require standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces. You will collaborate closely with other facilities staff and occasionally with contractors and campus stakeholders to complete repairs and maintenance efficiently and safely. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Whittier, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
