Merit Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience in the trade, which may include an apprenticeship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Backflow Prevention Tester
  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial or institutional plumbing systems
  • Customer service experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building and plumbing codes, OSHA safety standards, and ADA compliance
Job Description:
Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Plumber. This essential role performs skilled work at the journey level to install, maintain, and repair piping systems, plumbing fixtures, appliances, and laboratory and mechanical equipment associated with gas, air, steam, water, drainage, and heating/cooling systems. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure the functionality, safety, and efficiency of university facilities. About the

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including piping, fixtures, and equipment for water, gas, air, steam, and drainage systems
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues within plumbing systems and recommend effective solutions
  • Perform work on heating and cooling systems, ensuring efficient and safe operation
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine layout and installation procedures
  • Collaborate with other trades and departments to support renovation and maintenance projects
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and university procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project progress Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.
