Job Title:
Mechanical Plumber - Commercial Construction Job Description This role focuses on installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial plumbing systems on ground-up construction projects. You will read and interpret blueprints, install various pipe systems, perform system testing, and ensure all work complies with building codes and safety standards. You will collaborate closely with project teams and may provide on-the-job guidance to apprentices while delivering high-quality, code-compliant plumbing installations across multiple sites in Maryland. Responsibilities Install water supply, waste, and drainage systems in commercial buildings using PVC, copper, cast iron, and other commercial piping materials. Perform commercial plumbing installations from rough-in through final trim on ground-up construction projects. Troubleshoot and repair issues in existing commercial plumbing systems to restore proper function and prevent future failures. Conduct pressure and leak tests to verify system integrity and ensure installations meet required standards. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building plans to lay out and install plumbing systems accurately. Ensure all installations and repairs comply with applicable building codes and commercial plumbing standards. Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and other trades to coordinate work, resolve field issues, and keep projects on schedule. Follow all company policies and OSHA safety standards while working on active construction sites. Participate in or conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks as needed to promote a safe jobsite. Maintain accurate logs, as-built documentation, and records of material usage for each project. Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and other trades to provide updates and clarify project requirements. Provide on-the-job training and support to apprentices or less experienced team members as needed. Essential Skills 4-7 years of hands-on experience in commercial plumbing. Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and installations. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction documents. Experience installing and working with PVC, copper, cast iron, and other commercial piping materials. Demonstrated experience with commercial pipe installation and mechanical piping systems. Ability to perform system testing, including pressure and leak tests, and interpret results accurately. Working knowledge of applicable building codes and commercial plumbing standards. OSHA 10 certification. Ability to follow OSHA and company safety policies on active construction sites. Effective communication skills to coordinate with project managers, foremen, clients, and other trades. Willingness and ability to travel to job sites throughout Maryland, including areas from Silver Spring to Harford County. Additional Skills & Qualifications Journeyman plumber license preferred. Experience on ground-up commercial construction projects. Background working alongside HVAC and other mechanical trades. Ability to maintain detailed documentation, including as-built records and material tracking. Capability to mentor and support apprentices in the field. Flexibility to work on multiple job sites and adapt to changing project needs within Maryland. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based on ground-up commercial construction projects across Maryland, with work occurring on active job sites from Silver Spring to Harford County. Assignments aim to keep you as close as possible to your home area, but you must be willing to travel to various project locations within the region. You will work with commercial plumbing and mechanical systems, including PVC, copper, cast iron, and other piping materials, often in coordination with HVAC and other trades. The environment is typical of large construction projects, requiring adherence to OSHA 10 safety practices, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and compliance with site-specific safety protocols. Work hours follow standard construction schedules, and you will spend most of your time on-site performing physical, hands-on tasks in a dynamic field setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hunt Valley, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
