This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with Local Union 324 Pay $ 39.72 hourly What this job involves The Plumber is responsible for inspecting, maintaining , repairing, and replacing plumbing systems and components across assigned schools and support facilities. This position responds to routine and emergency work orders involving domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, restrooms, kitchens, water heaters, piping, valves, traps, fixtures, and related equipment. The Plumber works collaboratively with Maintenance Area Managers, school administrators, GDI personnel, vendors, and District representatives to keep facilities safe, sanitary, code-compliant, and ready for instruction and community use. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, sound independent judgment, accurate documentation, and professional service in occupied school environments. Qualifications Current Michigan journey plumber license required for work that must be performed by a licensed plumber; additional licensing or endorsements are preferred where relevant to assigned duties. High school diploma or equivalent required ; completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent training preferred. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial or institutional plumbing systems; school-facility experience preferred. Working knowledge of plumbing codes, tools, materials, fixtures, piping systems, drainage equipment, and safe work practices. Ability to read plans, diagrams, equipment documentation, and work-order information and to use mobile or computer-based maintenance systems. Strong communication , organization, problem-solving, and customer-service skills. Valid driver's license , reliable transportation, and ability to pass required background and drug screening. Ability to work independently, travel among assigned facilities, and participate in scheduled on-call or after- hours coverage. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or mechanical means used for heavier items. Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, restrooms, kitchens, and other active school environments. Regular exposure to water, noise, dust, odors, chemicals, sewage-contaminated materials, and other conditions typical of plumbing maintenance; required protective measures must be followed.
