Immediately Job Description General Definition of Work The Plumber I, under general supervision, performs entry-level work with minimal decision-making discretion related to assisting in the assembly, installation and repair of plumbing, water flow and drainage systems in accordance with specifications and city, state and federal plumbing codes. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the maintenance & operations supervisor II. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Salary/Status Hourly NC 10/Full-time, 12 months Reports To Maintenance & Operations Supervisor II Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Assist with maintaining all plumbing systems within the district in accordance with local and state plumbing codes Fit, measure, cut and connect pipes and fittings according to pipefitting principles and techniques including soldering, welding, threading, screw-socket, crimping and pressing Operate heavy equipment including skid loaders, track hoe, dump truck, pump truck and high-power sewer cleaning equipment Identify, record, repair and perform maintenance on fire hydrants within the district Perform maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems Maintains records for the procurement card Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policies Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of pipefitting theory and techniques Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and maintenance Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and NC Plumbing Code Knowledge of trade related materials and tools and their proper use Skilled in the application of pipefitting techniques Skilled in basic math and computers Ability to receive and follow instructions for repair, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, tools, equipment and vehicles Ability to read basic blueprints Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required Equivalent combination of education and experiencePosition Type:
