Duties and Responsibilities Determine materials, sequence of tasks, and work methods needed for installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance assignments. Perform maintenance and repair duties on a wide variety of plumbing and piping components in building equipment, such as heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units, refrigeration units, fire extinguishing systems, kitchen appliances, water softeners and filters, and heat exchangers. Assemble pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, or caulking, or soldering, brazing, Pro-Press, or welding processes. Measure, cuts, threads, or bends pipe to required angles using hand or power tools and machines. Install, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble plumbing fittings and fixtures, such as drains, catch basins, toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, and radiators. Install and repair steam generators, autoclaves, and sterilizers. Test and monitor pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks. Perform inspections and maintenance on valve and meter boxes, septic tanks, cesspools, and utility storage areas, such as mechanical rooms, tunnels, and manholes. Replace, connect, and maintain drain lines, water lines, underground water mains, service lines, and sewage lines. Maintain, repair, rebuild, and replace fire hydrants and water valves. Demonstrates and provides instruction to other trades and maintenance employees on plumbing and pipefitting related tasks. Operate motor vehicles. System include but not limited to domestic water, heating/chilled water, fire protection, drain/waste/vent, storm water, steam, air, and other gases. Install, replace, and repair plastic, copper, steel, cast iron, ductile iron, or other pipe systems. Piping may be below ground, under concrete, within building (high ceilings), down manholes, exterior or within building equipment and machinery. Connection of pipes includes soldering, brazing, threading pipes, Victaulic fittings, minor welding, or other connection methods. Troubleshoot, repair, and install all types of equipment associated with plumbing field such as circulating pumps, pressure pumps, dishwashing equipment, boilers and related components, hot water tanks, garbage disposals, kitchen equipment, sump pumps, stills and grease traps/pits. Repair and replace radiant heat systems convectors, heat exchangers and coils that heat water or air. Install, replace, or unclog fixtures such as urinals, toilets, drinking fountains, water filling stations, sinks, showers, and bathtubs. Repair and replace peripheral equipment such as faucets, drains, vents, pressure gauges, thermometers, valves, strainers, traps, fire hydrants, hose bibs, or other accessories. Complete work in compliance with industry standards, codes, specifications, and quality expectations. Complete required documentation for all work performed and procured materials. Coordinate all work with building occupants or others as required. Keep accurate records pertaining to the job including time records, materials and supplies inventories and equipment used. Seek advice and guidance from the supervisor as needed. Address customer complaints. All other duties as assigned.Safety:
Immediately reports accidents and incidents to include near misses. Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintaining equipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc. Ensure staff follows same process. Seek additional training and certification to perform their duties. Identify safety issues related to equipment, actions, or processes. Review MSDS for chemicals related to the department. Be aware of and report potential safety hazards immediately. Resolve pending hazards in a timely fashion. Consult with supervisor or Environmental Health & Safety Director as needed to resolve unsafe conditions or obtain additional training/resources. Stop unsafe practice regardless of shop or contractor if imminently endangering life or severe property damage. Leave the work area clean and functional at the end of shift Cooperate with safety investigations and audits Attend safety training sessions. Required Qualifications Three years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing components and fixtures OR an equivalent combination of experience and training (i.e. votech program, apprentice or technical school training).Knowledge of:
methods, materials, tools, practices used in the trade. occupational hazards and safety precautions involved. flows, pressure, and capacity of water tanks and lines. the care and use of tools used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems, fixtures, and components. Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships. read and interpret plumbing blueprints, drawings, and schematics. properly use/care for tools. detect equipment defects and make repairs. follow oral/written instructions. lift 50 lbs. without assistance; drive maintenance vehicles. work in adverse weather, confined spaces, and at varying heights. wear required Personal Protective Equipment. Proficient safe operation of tools of the trade and work practices. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills. Basic PC skills. Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations. Valid driver's license. Successful interview.
