Plumber, Lead (Revised 5/7/2026)
Brownsville Independent School District
Cuts and threads pipe. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members. Drives District vehicles to and from work site; obeys traffic laws at all times. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Maintains confidentiality. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees. Maintains professional growth by attending in-service and meetings as requested/required. Position may require overtime and will respond to service calls in a timely manner while serving on-call duty as necessary to maintain function of District facilities. Must perform daily vehicle inspections and maintenance preventions before and after trips. Performs any other maintenance trades duties as assigned by Supervisor/Director.

REQUIRED High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required, in English; Over six (6) years of related experience; minimum one (1) year supervisory experience; a working knowledge of a specialized field such as plumbing. A Masters Plumbing License is required. A valid Texas Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Assists Foreman in supervising plumbers and monitoring all work related to plumbing maintenance and dispatch workers with job orders. Assists Foreman in making material list of plumbing supplies to obtain a purchase order. Ability to work with purchasing bids and different plumbing vendors on bid with the district. Read blueprints and specifications to analyze and solve plumbing problems. Assist plumbing crews in ordering the tools and equipment of the trade and ensure that plumbers follow safety practices. Ensure good quality craftsmanship in plumbing work. Must know tools of the trade and be very knowledgeable in plumbing practices. Assist Foreman in evaluating plumbers and in resolving personnel issues with the plumbers. Performs duties of workers supervised. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe. Located and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors. Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.Cuts and threads pipe.
