Job Description

The City of Richmond Department of General Services is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Plumbing Maintenance Specialist, Senior in the Facilities Maintenance Division . The incumbent is responsible for installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining all plumbing fixtures, facilities, and equipment within City facilities. Studying building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring Installing, testing, repairing, replacing, cleaning, and maintaining plumbing fixtures and equipment according to plumbing codes, regulations and/or ordinances Reviewing blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures Measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines Keeping records of assignments and produces detailed work reports Performing other related duties as assigned •City of Richmond Public Works employees who work in this class are considered essential personnel and will be required to work during declared emergencies and major weather events •This individual may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays or on-call as needed•
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED Five (5) years of plumbing experience An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Current and valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Skill in the proper use of basic tools such as rulers, saws, hand tools, etc. Knowledge of plumbing codes and rules for trades. Knowledge of proper applications for completing work competently and thoroughly. Skill in the proper use of safety equipment. Basic mathematics skills and reading comprehension. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability in operating manual and semi-automatic welding equipment. Skill in operating, maintaining, and repairing pumps. Ability to safely operate power tools, grinders, pipe threading machines, and sewer cleaning machines. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Working conditions may include exposure to travel to other locations within the City of Richmond as well as outside of the City of Richmond; exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, etc.; atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation; inadequate lighting; intense noise; and environmental hazards such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly stand, walk, push, pull, finger, talk, see, hear and use repetitive motion; frequently feel, grasp, finger and see; frequently talk and hear; and occasionally balance, stoop, crouch, stand, pull, grasp, and feel. The working conditions may include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
