Job Description

The Town of Burlington is seeking an individual to perform skilled manual work for the Water & Sewer Division related to the general operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems under the direction of the Superintendent of the Water & Sewer Division. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: Service, maintain and repair pumps and auxiliary machinery and equipment Daily readings of pump station meters and gauges; maintain charts, records, and logs of activities Install, maintain, repair, test, and adjust machinery used in the sewer collection systems Utilize work order system and other electronic devices to complete daily assignments Operate specialized equipment including air compressors and mechanical drives Operate and maintain gasoline and diesel engines Assist in snow removal operations; subject to emergency recall Assist with other general facility maintenance and public works operations, as necessary Minimum qualifications include Must possess a CDL Class B License with tank endorsement. Must possess a Hoisting License 1B and 2A. Applicants without the necessary CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under certain conditions. Must possess a working knowledge of air compressors and mechanical drives. Must be familiar with basic functions and operation of purifying equipment. Must have experience in the operation and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines. Must be able to climb up and down ladders to a depth of 25' below street level. Must be available for emergency snow removal and able to plow and sand roads. This is a full time union position, 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit. Salary is within Group 86 of the DPW contract.
Starting hourly rate:
$30.82
  • $32.21 per hour. Effective July 1, 2026, the anticipated hourly range will increase to $31.90
  • $33.34 per hour. Benefits include Health and Dental Insurance Paid Time Off
