Shipyard Rigger (Construction Division) Kiewit - 3.7 Jersey City, NJ Job Details Full-time $22 - $24 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Outdoor work English Lifts and hoists Full Job Description Position Overview The Shipyard Rigger supports the construction division by performing safe, efficient rigging and material‑handling operations within the Jersey City shipyard. This role is critical to supporting barge, crane, and marine equipment maintenance , as well as mobilization/demobilization for construction projects across the Northeast. The Rigger works closely with Foremen, Crane Operators, Welders, Fitters, and Yard Personnel to keep yard operations moving safely and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Rigging & Lift Preparation — Select, inspect, and attach rigging gear for lifting machinery, steel, pipe, and marine components. Crane Support — Act as a signal person; assist operators with safe load movement using mobile, crawler, and barge‑mounted cranes. Material Handling — Move tools, rigging gear, consumables, and structural materials throughout the yard and onto barges. Equipment & Vessel Support — Assist with barge tie‑offs, drydock prep, staging equipment, and supporting mobilization for construction projects. Rigging Gear Inspection — Inspect slings, shackles, hooks, chain falls, come‑alongs, and spreader bars before use. General Yard Labor — Cutting, grinding, cleaning, housekeeping, and assisting craft crews as needed. Safety Compliance — Follow OSHA, USCG, and Weeks Marine safety standards; participate in JHAs, toolbox talks, and safe‑work planning. Required Qualifications Experience in rigging within a shipyard, industrial, or heavy‑construction environment. Ability to read hand signals and communicate clearly with crane operators. Familiarity with slings, shackles, chain falls, hoists, and lifting devices . Ability to work outdoors , around heavy equipment, and in marine environments. Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks. Valid TWIC or ability to obtain one. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours based on project needs. Live in the local commuting area
Pay:
