Job Description

Metal Roofing Technician Buford, GA 30518 Full-time Full-time
WHO WE ARE
Wormley Brothers is a nearly 40-year-old commercial roofing contractor serving Georgia and the Southeast. We've built a reputation on quality workmanship, dependable service, and national certifications
  • the kind of company GCs call when they need it done right.
Recently, we joined LCAB Holdings, a veteran-owned construction holding company. That means more resources, better systems, and room to grow while keeping what made us successful in the first place. Metal is its own discipline. We're looking for someone who knows that and has the hands to prove it.
THE ROLE
Location:
Buford, GA (Field-based — Greater Atlanta & Southeast region)
Reports To:
Foreman / Project Manager |
Works With:
Roofing Crews, GCs, Fabricators You're a metal specialist. You install standing seam, work with structural and architectural panels, fabricate custom flashings and trim in the field, and leave a roof that looks as precise as it performs. This isn't a "know a little about metal" role. You're the person who gets called when the detail is complicated, the panel run is long, or the trim work has to be perfect. That requires real experience with metal, not just time around it. Where you'll spend your time: 55% Panel installation
  • standing seam, R-panel, structural and architectural systems 25% Trim, flashing, and detail work
  • field fabrication, copings, transitions, penetrations 10% Layout and planning
  • reading shop drawings, sequencing panel runs, coordinating with crew 10% Repairs and remediation
  • metal system repairs, re-seaming, flashing replacement
Translation:
You install metal systems that perform and look the part. Precision isn't optional.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Install Metal Roofing Systems:
Install standing seam metal roof systems (mechanical seam and snap-lock) per manufacturer specs Install structural and architectural metal panel systems on commercial and industrial projects Work with a variety of substrates: steel decking, wood decking, existing roof assemblies Set and maintain proper panel alignment, spacing, and fastening patterns from start to finish Operate electric seamers, hand seamers, and panel forming equipment safely and accurately
Fabricate and Install Details:
Fabricate custom flashings, copings, rake trim, eave trim, and transitions in the field Cut, bend, and form sheet metal to fit complex conditions and non-standard details Install counterflashings, valley metal, and step flashings to manufacturer and project specs Waterproof all penetrations, transitions, and terminations correctly the first time Read and work from shop drawings and architectural details without constant supervision Work the
Job:
Coordinate panel layout and sequencing with the Foreman before the first panel goes down Stage materials efficiently: metal panels require careful handling to avoid damage Work safely at height with fall protection, roof brackets, and mobile elevating equipment Maintain tools and equipment
  • a dull brake or a dirty seamer shows up in your work Document any field deviations from drawings and communicate them to the PM immediately
WHAT YOU NEED
Must-Haves:
4+ years hands-on experience installing commercial metal roofing systems (not primarily repair or residential) Proficiency with standing seam systems
  • mechanical seam and/or snap-lock; you've run full panel installations Experience with R-panel, PBR panel, or structural metal panel systems Competency in field metal fabrication: brake operation, cutting, bending, and forming trim and flashings Ability to read and execute from shop drawings and manufacturer installation guides Experience with single membrane roofing systems (PVC, TPO) OSHA 10 minimum; OSHA 30 preferred Valid driver's license; ability to travel to project sites throughout Greater Atlanta and the
Southeast Standout Attributes:
Manufacturer training or certification (McElroy, Englert, Petersen, ATAS, Metal Sales, etc.) Experience on steep-slope metal applications (standing seam over purlins, residential commercial crossover) Familiarity with metal-over-membrane or hybrid roof system installations Comfortable working as the most knowledgeable person on metal when the Foreman is managing the broader crew Detail-oriented to the point where an out-of-plumb panel bothers you before anyone else notices
Bonus Points:
Experience with metal wall panel systems (cladding, soffit, fascia) Welding or soldering skills for specialty metal applications Familiarity with copper or zinc specialty metal roofing
SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE 30
Days:
You know our panel systems, our shop drawing format, and how we sequence a metal roof. You're contributing from day one without needing someone to walk you through every detail. 90
Days:
Your panel runs are clean, your trim work is sharp, and the Foreman trusts you to own the metal scope. Zero rework from bad seams or misaligned panels. 6
Months:
You're the go-to tech for complicated metal details. GCs and owners comment on the quality of the finished product. Newer crew members learn by watching you.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS
Craft-focused work: Metal roofing done right looks great. You'll be proud of what you put up.
Growing division:
Metal is an increasing share of our commercial work. There's a clear path to Lead Tech and Foreman.
Consistent pipeline:
Commercial work, not one-off residential jobs. You know what next month looks like.
Solid team:
Work alongside people who care about getting it right and won't ask you to cut corners Fair compensation: Competitive hourly rate DOE + comprehensive benefits (401(k), medical, dental, vision) Equipped to work: Quality tools, organized material handling, and support from experienced PMs
THIS WON'T WORK IF YOU
Have general roofing experience but limited time actually installing metal panel systems Struggle with precision
  • metal doesn't hide mistakes the way membrane does Aren't comfortable with field fabrication and brake work Need someone to interpret shop drawings for you before you can start Treat trim and flashing details as an afterthought to the panel installation Can't work independently when the Foreman is managing other parts of the job
HOW TO APPLY
Submit:
Resume + a few sentences answering these questions: 1. What metal roofing systems have you installed, and which are you most experienced with? Be specific (panel profiles, manufacturers, seam types). 2. Describe a metal detail
  • flashing, transition, or penetration
  • that required field fabrication to solve.
What did you do? 3. What's the longest standing seam panel run you've been part of installing? What were the main challenges?
Hiring Process:
1. Initial screening (20 min phone with Project Manager) 2. Interview with Project Manager and GM (45 min) 3. Field assessment on an active metal project 4. Decision within 1 week 5. Start date flexible (ideally within 30 days)
FINAL THOUGHT
Metal roofing is a specialty. It takes patience, precision, and a real understanding of how metal moves, expands, and performs over time. You can't fake it. We've been in commercial roofing for nearly four decades because we don't put people in roles they're not ready for. We invest in people who are ready to do the work at a high level. If you take the time to get a panel run straight before the first clip goes in
  • and it bothers you when someone else doesn't
  • let's talk.
