Job Description

Install Helper Job description: Fireplace Installation Apprentice (Carpentry & Construction Focus) American Heritage Fireplace, the premier destination for fireplace needs since 1992, is looking for a motivated, hardworking individual to join our team as a Fireplace Installation Apprentice. If you have experience with carpentry and are looking to expand your skills into a specialized trade that combines construction, mechanical work, and finish work, this is your opportunity. You will work directly under our experienced lead installers, learning a valuable trade from the ground up right here in the Chicago area. What You Will Learn This is not just a general labor job; it is a cross-functional trade education. While assisting with installations, you will gain hands-on knowledge in:
Carpentry:
Framing out fireplace chases, installing mantels, and finish trim work.
Plumbing:
Running gas lines and making proper connections for gas units.
HVAC:
Installing specialized venting systems for gas and wood-burning units.
Electrical:
Wiring switches, blowers, and ignition systems.
Responsibilities Installation:
Assist lead technicians in the complete installation of wood, gas, and electric fireplaces and stoves in residential homes.
Heavy Lifting & Rigging:
Safely load, unload, and maneuver heavy heating units (up to 75 lbs) into place.
Heights & Roof Work:
comfortably work off ladders and on rooftops to install chimney systems and caps.
Job Site Prep:
Ensure work areas are protected and clean, respecting the customer's home at all times.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all local building codes and industry safety standards (NFI best practices). Who We Are Looking For The ideal candidate has a "builder's mindset." You don't need to be a fireplace expert yet, but you must have a foundation in construction. Carpentry Experience (Required): You must have hands-on experience with framing, tape measures, and power tools (saws, drills, etc.).
Physical Strength:
Must be able to lift 75 lbs , climb extension ladders, and work comfortably on roofs and in tight spaces (attics/crawlspaces).
Mechanical Aptitude:
You enjoy figuring out how things fit together and have a basic understanding of how to use hand tools.
Reliable & Professional:
Dependable attendance is non-negotiable. You must be courteous and clean-cut, as you will be representing our company inside customers' homes.
Driver's License:
A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required to operate company vehicles in the Chicago service area.
Compensation & Benefits Competitive Pay:
$19 - $26 per hour (Based on experience).
