Job Title:
Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on installing and assembling a wide range of sheet metal duct systems in commercial environments. You will work with spiral, galvanized, rectangular, double wall, and stainless steel ductwork, support AC installations and retrofits, and interpret blueprints to complete accurate layouts. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently on active construction sites. Responsibilities Install all types of sheet metal duct systems, including spiral, galvanized, rectangular, double wall, and stainless steel ductwork. Measure and cut sheet metal to precise dimensions using appropriate tools and techniques. Install preassembled duct sections and ensure secure, leak-free connections. Support AC installation and retrofit projects, including general piping and controls work as needed. Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete accurate layouts. Use scribers, dividers, and squares to mark dimensions and layout lines on materials. Install and work with VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes and offsets as part of duct systems. Coordinate and communicate effectively with crews and customers to ensure smooth project execution. Follow construction schedules and complete tasks on time while maintaining high quality standards. Adhere to all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment on site. Assist with general construction and duct installation tasks as needed to support project goals. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of experience with commercial sheet metal work. Proficiency in installing spiral, galvanized, rectangular, double wall, and stainless steel duct systems. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and construction drawings. Experience with duct installation in commercial construction environments. General knowledge of piping, controls, AC installation, and retrofit work. Skill in measuring and cutting sheet metal accurately to specified dimensions. Ability to use scribers, dividers, squares, and other layout tools to mark dimensions on materials. Experience installing VAV boxes and offsets in duct systems. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with crews and customers. Knowledge of OSHA 10 safety principles and safe work practices. Capability to work safely and efficiently on active construction sites. Work Environment You will work primarily on a mix of new construction and tenant fit-out projects, including work on the 7th floor of a commercial building. The environment involves active construction areas where you may install ductwork in office and professional spaces. You must feel comfortable working in warm conditions and at elevated levels within the building. The typical schedule runs Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with opportunities for additional hours and overtime as needed. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, and you will work within a safety-conscious environment that follows established construction and OSHA guidelines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
