Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Description This position focuses on installing HVAC ductwork on commercial projects across the state, ensuring systems are assembled and fitted accurately, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Responsibilities Install HVAC duct systems on commercial job sites, following project plans, specifications, and applicable codes. Measure, cut, and assemble sheet metal components to create ductwork and related fittings. Fit, hang, and secure ductwork using appropriate supports, fasteners, and tools to ensure safe and stable installations. Interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout diagrams to plan duct routes and installation sequences. Collaborate with other trades on-site to coordinate installation activities and avoid conflicts with other building systems. Inspect completed duct installations for proper alignment, airtight connections, and overall quality. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively during cutting, forming, and fastening of sheet metal. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all site safety rules and procedures. Identify and report any issues, discrepancies, or material needs to site leadership in a timely manner. Essential Skills Proven experience installing HVAC ductwork on commercial projects. Strong sheet metal skills, including measuring, cutting, forming, and assembling duct components. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and duct layout plans. Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in sheet metal and duct installation work. Solid understanding of basic construction and job site safety practices. Ability to work efficiently on active commercial job sites and meet project deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior duct installation experience specifically on commercial jobs. Experience working within multi-trade construction teams. Ability to adapt to different project types and site conditions across the state. Work Environment Work takes place on active commercial construction sites throughout the state, primarily in HVAC installation areas. Hours typically follow standard construction schedules and may vary by project. Appropriate work attire and protective gear, including safety footwear and other required personal protective equipment, are expected in accordance with site safety rules. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whippany, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
