Job Title:
Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on installing HVAC ductwork for commercial projects across the state, ensuring high-quality workmanship, accurate layout, and reliable performance of air distribution systems. Responsibilities Install HVAC duct systems for commercial projects in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and industry standards. Measure, cut, and assemble sheet metal components to fabricate and fit ductwork accurately. Securely fasten ducts, fittings, and hangers to ensure proper support, alignment, and airflow. Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and layout drawings to determine duct routes and installation requirements. Inspect completed duct installations for proper fit, sealing, and function, and make adjustments as needed. Use hand and power tools safely to cut, bend, shape, and join sheet metal components. Coordinate with other trades on-site to complete installations efficiently and avoid conflicts with other building systems. Follow all site safety rules and best practices to maintain a safe and orderly work area. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with duct layout or fit during installation to meet project timelines. Essential Skills Proven experience performing duct installation on commercial projects. Hands-on proficiency in HVAC duct installation using sheet metal. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and layout drawings. Skilled in measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing sheet metal ductwork. Competence in using common sheet metal and HVAC installation tools safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate fit, secure connections, and proper sealing of duct systems. Ability to work efficiently on active construction sites and meet project deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on a variety of commercial job sites and adapting to different project requirements. Familiarity with industry best practices for HVAC duct installation and sheet metal work. Strong problem-solving skills to address on-site installation challenges. Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other trades. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is field-based on commercial construction sites throughout the state. The role may involve standing, bending, lifting, and working at heights or on ladders for extended periods. Work schedules typically follow standard construction hours and may vary by project. Appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment are required in accordance with site safety standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whippany, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
