JOB STEP
Journeyman - Typically 3 years and above documented field experience in chosen craft discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently. SUMMARY Plan, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs HVAC sheet metal parts, equipment, and products, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, machining, and layout techniques, using hand tools, power tools, and machines, and equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fabricates, installs and maintains HVAC sheet metal per site request. Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, straighten, block and form materials. Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products, using hand tool, power tools, and equipment Shapes metal material over anvil, block or other form, using hammer, operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; inspect, assemble, and smooth seams and joints of burred surfaces. Trims, files, grinds, de-burrs, buffs, and smoothes surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools. Installs assemblies and installation in supportive framework according to blueprints, using hand tools, power tools and lifting and handling devices. Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribers, dividers, squares and rulers, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or using templates. Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products. Selects gauge and type of sheet metal, aluminum, or non metallic material, according to product specifications. May operate laser-beam cutter or plasma arc cutter to cut patterns from sheet metal. Uses metallurgical knowledge when fabricating, installing, welding, and soldering sections of ductwork. Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines. Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities. Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Performs other duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS HVAC
Fabrication Experience Required Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. Plan work and select proper tools. Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects. Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. Work at heights without fear.
QUALIFICATIONS
May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
