Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sheet Metal Technician to perform critical structural work on aircraft. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings, fabricating and shaping metal parts using various machines, conducting precise inspections, and executing repairs to aircraft skins and components. Youll be responsible for ensuring structural integrity, applying corrosion-resistant coatings, and maintaining meticulous records, all while adhering to strict safety and quality regulations.
Role and Responsibilities:
Comply with all safety regulations and procedures while performing work. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, manuals, and specifications to determine layout requirements. Mark outlines or patterns on materials, using measuring instruments and scribes. Set up and operate fabricating machines (e.g., shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, punch and drill presses) to cut, bend, block, form, punch, drill, or otherwise shape parts to specifications. Operate soldering equipment to join sheet metal parts. Smooth edges and surfaces of grooves or joints, using hand tools, power tools, files, or chemicals. Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and tolerances, using precision measuring instruments. Provide accurate diagnoses and repair of structural discrepancies noted. Install structural fittings such as bulkheads, formers, stringers, ribs, frames, and other components. Install insulation materials such as fiberglass or polyurethane using hand or power tools. Repair dents, cracks, or other damage to the aircraft's skin using appropriate hand tools. Repair holes in aircraft skins using patch materials (e.g., aluminum, composite materials, plastic materials such as fiberglass cloth or synthetic resin materials). Install, repair, and replace aircraft skins, structural components, and interior furnishings such as insulation, carpeting, vinyl flooring, soundproofing materials, seats, paneling, and painting. Install interior and exterior trims such as windows, doors, bulkheads, wall panels, ceilings, flooring, and staircases. Apply corrosion-resistant coatings (e.g., paint or primer) to surfaces to protect them from damage. Keep detailed records of all repairs and work performed on the aircraft in accordance with repair station guidelines.
Skills:
Drawing Interpretation:
Ability to interpret drawings for the fabrication of parts as well as installation of STC components.
Fabrication:
Proficiency in creating airworthy parts by using AC43.13 or other approved data for repairs, including creating and modifying parts for aircraft.
Inspection:
Skilled in assessing the condition of aircraft parts, determining repair needs, and ensuring installed parts function correctly through testing and performance monitoring.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years' experience as a sheet metal mechanic. Working knowledge of blueprint reading. Ability to use basic Sheetmetal hand tools. Familiarity with aviation maintenance manuals.
